Boredom meet with Narutobase and created this. Enjoy!

The Preliminaries of the Chunnin Exams had just been concluded. Naruto, after a tough and bloody battle with his classmate Kiba and the boy's little white dog Akamaru, had managed a place in the next round of the competition. He was still absolutely convinced that fighting alongside a vicious dog against a lone opponent was cheating and planned to report the whole thing to Old Man Hokage first chance he got. The preliminaries had taught Naruto many things; he had previous held the notion that Aburame Shino was weird, but now he knew the guy was a first class freak. He thought Choji was fat and stupid but he turned out the Akimichi could get even fatter, and seeing how easily he was defeated, even stupider. Seeing Sakura fight with so much passion annoyed him because he knew the reason the fight meant much to her was because of Sasuke....idiot Sasuke. He was surprised the idiot seemed more idiotic during his own battle. For an Uchiha hotshot, Sasuke really struggled when he faced the guy with the weird glasses on Kabuto-san's team. Why? Naruto wondered. Why did Kabuto-san give up anyways? The preliminaries had both enlightened him and confused him about many things.

But it had filled him with stronger resolutions. Seeing Thick Eyebrow fight to very last ounce of his strength to follow his Nindo was more than just a little inspiring. Now his respect for Lee surpassed his disgust at his eyebrows and stretchy green tights. But he'd never let him know that. Naruto just hoped the guy was ok. That Sunagakure boy, Gaara, the one who had no eyebrows, filled Naruto with dread. He was like the opposite of Lee, and not just when it came brows. While Lee inspired, Gaara terrified. Naruto hadn't felt like that since he first saw Zabuza...who also didn't have eyebrows. Maybe guys with no eyebrows were just plain scary. Naruto began to inspect everyone's eyebrows as he walked towards the Konoha Hospital, and he became very apprehensive of those who had that peculiar feature. If he ever had kids, he would make sure they had eyebrows even if he had to glue some hair to the skin above their eyes. But not thick ones like Thick Eyebrows.

He was going to the hospital to make sure Idiot Sasuke was okay. Not that he cared for him. Naruto didn't care for idiots. But Sakura would be worried and he would like to be able to assuage her fears when he saw her next. Yes, Naruto told himself, this was all for Sakura. And encouraging and cheering Sasuke on during the Uchiha's match, that was for Sakura too. He arrived at the hospital, bypassed the front desk, ascended the stairs and-in typical Naruto fashion-started screaming Sasuke's name at the top of his voice. He stopped when he overheard two passing nurses discussing something.

"...and thank heavens the Hyuuga girl is fine too. Such gentle looking child. These Chunnin Exams are always so rough." said one of them, the brown haired younger looking one, her expression fully of worry. "And now, that boy in the green-"

"Don't get so fussy. This is something we get used to. We are shinobi. Violence is the way we live." the other nurse said sententiously. Her hair was tinged with gray and her face marked with wrinkles, emblems of years and experience.

They ignored Naruto as they passed by hurriedly. Naruto guessed they had other patients to deal with with. He clenched his fist as he thought of Hinata, the hand he had used to take some of her blood when he swore to avenge her loss. He couldn't exactly pinpoint why he did it. Seeing her cousin, Neji, standing haughtily over her and declaring her hopelessness filled him with rage. In that moment, he saw Neji as a representation of the loathing and digust Konoha's citizens had always had towards him. Hinata, to him, was like his young naive self who struggled to understand why he was hated and why he was alone. His hand moved to his belly. He knew why now. But he had never known about Hinata. Naruto had never met someone who was shunned like him. He had always thought she was plain weird. But, as already mentioned, the preliminaries taught him many things.

Quickly and quietly he started searching for Hinata's room. He couldn't exactly pinpoint why he was doing this either.

It didn't take long for him to find. They had a whole wing for those who got hurt in the course of the Chunnin Exam. She looked so small on the bed, hooked up to all the beeping machines. She was unconscious and breathing gently. Naruto eyed her gentle face in silence for a view moments. How fragile, he thought. Naruto did not see how a girl with Hinata's mild personality could take troubles and woe. Now that he thought about it, it shouldn't have surprised him when she initially trembled against Neji. She looked soft. Even her voice just barely went above a whisper. But soft was not something she could afford to be. Not if she hoped to overcome the negative label of 'drop out'. She should be confident. Like Thick Eyebrows. Naruto inspected her eyebrows at that moment and was relieved they were neither thick nor absent; meaning she was neither a big fat loser or a scary sociopath. In fact, they were actually kind of pretty.

Her hands still had those red spots from whatever Neji did to her. Seeing them reminded him of how she cast off her timidity and faced Neji with confidence. She had impressed him there. He was glad to cheer her on. Instead of trembling and giving up, she stood firmly, spoke confidently, moved gracefully and fought valiantly.

But she lost.

Naruto's brows furrowed in a deep frown. That bastard Neji had no right to call her family. He pulled her down instead of building her up. Naruto could endure the disdain and disregard of the village but he doubted if he could take it from his own family if he had one. He imagined Iruka calling him a hopeless good for nothing and his heart sank. Naruto's blood boiled and his hands clenched as he thought of heartless, haughty Neji, yet his eyes were soft and gentle as he gazed at Hinata with deep sympathy.

Naruto immmediately turned to leave. Yes, the preliminaries had filled him with resolve. A resolve to prove himself. A resolve the prove all his gainsayers wrong. But chieftly, and he didn't know why this was so paramount, a resolve to beat Neji to a bloody pulp.
