While I do believe your guess has some correctness in it, I think if Sasuke was an Edo he wouldn't care about destroying the Village anymore & probably try to dissuade Itachi from doing so also.

Not saying they would protect the village either I just don't believe they would actively try to harm it as both are dead & have nothing to gain from doing it.

Sasuke drives the plot, whether we like it or not, but Naruto would cry Sakura would cry, they'd still get stronger but Sasuke was a big reason for them to become stronger to 'bring him back to Konoha' although Naruto would focus more on becoming the hokage and changing the Shinobi system of hate and Sakura would be a medic ninja anyway and assist Naruto.

That would never happen, but if that did, then Sasuke would've likely been revived by Kabuto's Edo Tensei though I'd imagine that Obito would try to deceive Kabuto and attempt for Sasuke to either awaken his EMS or even the Rinnegan.

That wouldn't help as Konoha is allied with the other villages. If Konoha's dirty secrets are leaked out, then the possibility of the other villages being against Konoha could be pretty high which is a big "No No" when they're allied to take on a huge threat.

However he had other goals as well that made him much stronger. At the top of the list is becoming Hokage and surpassing all the other kages that came before. Getting Sasuke back was just a goal he needed to accomplish in order to reach a higher goal which is becoming Hokage.
