Imagine this scenario:
You are sailing on a boat with your boyfriend or best friend on the middle of the ocean.
Suddenly a big storm arrives and the boat sinks. You and your partner have no choice but to jump in the water. The problem is that there's only one life jacket. Your partner grabs it before you, puts it on and you're left in the water with nothing to help you.
You try to hold on to your partner's lifejacket but it is not strong enough to make 2 people float at the same time...and your partner is afraid that you will make him drown so he pushes you away. You tell him that you guys should share the life jacket and switch turns wearing it every 15 minutes or so...but he refuses.
You see pieces of wood floating around and try to use them as boards to hold on to, but you're too heavy to float on them...
You know that even if you're a good swimmer, it's only a matter of time before you start getting tired and unable to swim much longer in a storm.
What do you do?
(I saw that story on a tv show and was wondering what most people think they would do in that situation). And for the thread's sake, please don't answer that you would never sail on a boat in the middle of the ocean without enough lifejackets for everyone
