This is considering Hiruzen found out Danzo's schemes and confronted him to stop his evil ways . In this scenario Hiruzen is almost fatally injured and loses an arm being unfit for Kage duties so he appointes Itachi Uchiha to the position of Hokage. This is right before the masked man attacks konoha. Itachi's body guards are Kakashi Hatake and Hiashi Hyuga.

That would be stupid. Not to be rude but an Hokage and advisor trying to fight each other for a decision would be a bad look for Konoha and might even further ignite the coup e'tat more since the Uchiha might view Konoha weakened from a split in political decisions in such a way.

Itachi becoming Hokage would have been good for the village and possibly the Uchiha clan themselves as they felt cheated of power I believe.

Was Danzo even an advisor? I thought he was just the head of Root, basically the leader of the underground protecting Konoha from the shadows.

OT: Hiruzen would have probably won since he was always a step ahead of Danzo.

It wouldn't have stopped the Uchiha coup. Regardless of Danzo's schemes, the Uchiha were planning a coup. Itachi waited as long as he possibly could, same thing with shisui. Shisui at the end of his life agreed that their was no other way to stop the coup. Danzo definitely stopped Shisui from stopping it by stealing his eye, but after that there was no stopping it in a way where people weren't going to die.

But how do I think the fight would end? That is a different situation. It depends on whether Danzo has KA or izanagi at this point. If he has both I think he would probably beat hiruzen. Danzo is definitely powerful, and was going to be made the 6 hokage, don't forget that. Being able to die 10 times and cast a genjutsu on Hiruzen that is supposed to belong only to shisui would likely surprise Hiruzen and give Danzo the edge. Without KA or izanagi, I would say that Danzo loses to Hiruzen, but its a good fight. I don't think Hiruzen would lose any limbs, but would be wounded and likely have to be put in bed for awhile. Which would be a perfect time for the Uchiha to exact their coup.

How on earth would Hiruzen lose an arm to Danzo? o_O
OT: Basically things could've went bad for Konoha, Itachi isn't Minato and couldn't have defeated Obito the same way. Assuming Minato isn't Hokage he would've been somewhere else (replacing Hiruzen vs Kurama for example), plus, there would've been 1 less kage level shinobi in the village (although the Uchiha clan would be alive). I really don't know.
