Seeing as Obito slipping past the boulder and landing in the underground passage was pure coincidence, what would Madara have done if Obito didn't get hit by the boulder? Madara didn't plan on capturing Obito he only planned putting his eyes in Nagato and creating Zetsu. Obito was vital to the moons eye plan in convincing Nagato to set up akatsuki and getting Kisame to join. Do you think Zetsu could have convinced Nagato to set up akatsuki?

He probably would have abducted a young uchiha child through Zetsu, either that or he had a different idea set up.

he would have put all his eggs on nagato,kisame and zetsu obviously.

Im still yet to know why the hell tobi even invited itachi to abutski. Anyway thats for another discussion.

Yeah, That's why he put his eyes on Nagato and had zetsu do the lurking. With Obito entering the script Madara was able to increase his pace.
