Lets say during his fight with Minato he stuck his hand through minatos head and then materialised
Would he just not be able to do it or would something happen

Imagine u are water, and u go thru something hard, what will happen? U will eventually get back together. Thats what happens. His jutsu manipulates space, not material. If he materialised when he go thru anything, it will either step outside the thing, not inside.
