It doesn't help that i'm like the biggest Obito fan and thought his death was the perfect ending to the war and the arc. Imagine my torture as both Madara (some relic from the past) takes command and wastes panel time for a year and then even he is replaced by some other chick we've never even MET becomes FV. It's an insult to Obito aha :')

So yeah after a year and a half of this crap i'm so beyond it, i'm sitting back like

and just pretending it's some quirky weird fanfic. The show ended with Obito's death dude, nobody will tell me otherwise.

I loved Obito as a villain and I felt betrayed after he was redeemed 100% and became a good guy. No matter how many times Kishi has them say "You're an enemy but..." it won't fix it :|

I'm conflicted because he's getting the chance to redeem himself at the end of his life so he doesn't have to regret what he could've done (kakashis friend, be hokage etc etc) and for sure he's the best thign about this mess of an arc but honestly isn't it way more powerful to just have him die there having unfulfilled these possibilities? He's the villain- a tragic villain at that....and he should've been the final villain.

Yeah, that. I mean, we've seen him filled with regret when Naruto talked to him in their mindspace. That could have been enough. Obito could have gone out with a bang still by doing something heroic (which he is probably going to do soon) but all that part with him almost being dead, getting revived and then acting as one of the good guys feels unneeded IMO.

I know it's unpopular but I have the same opinion about Kabuto. My favourite character COULD have been put in a trance and converted to good Uchiha therapy style but he's done nothing of real significance on the battlefield and got almost instantly silenced by another genjutsu. He'll probably end up back with the orphanage but really? He is allowed to just kick it. He's one of the most obscene characters in the series and he WENT TOO FAR. He should've died at his own insanity back in the Uchiha bros fight.

I agree, those redemptions are way too idealistic as someone said, sad past is no excuse to forgive and forget crimes, and twisted people don't just "untwist" back into their old, good selves after someone shouts at them. In case of Kabuto I guess I'm somewhat more okay with him accepting his true self, but I dislike how it was completely off-screen, and how he came to help Sasuke pretty randomly instead of, I don't know, heading back to the orphanage right away and living there as a regretful hermit. On the other hand, he could have indeed just died in a battle like you said. And why not? All he's done after his redemption was being a plot device :|

Oh i actually find both of their redemptions believable...Obito's was literally depicted to us clearly throughout his defeat and with Kabuto what you have to remember that his izanami treatment was only 3 hours long but for him he was stuck in it for 30+ years if you do the math....him resolving his issues and learning about himself seems to make sense. They're believable...just not needed. I actually rewrote the Kabuto/itachi&sasuke fight once and the ending I had for Kabuto was muuuuch more brutal if you're interested.

Thanks, I'll get to it if I have time.

I'm not saying they weren't believable from Obito's or Kabuto's points. What I don't like is that Kishi seemingly wants us to believe that twisted villains can be forgiven if they have sad past. It's like, the acknowledgment of them still being criminals becomes weak. I know Naruto told Obito that he was going to be punished, but I don't feel it, now that they are working together like it's nothing.

I do agree. Whilst I like them equally I primarily follow Naruto's perspective but when it comes to the villains Sasuke is almost entirely right. Now I follow Naruto mainly because I like the whole 'messiah unity' theme of the show but what Naruto doesn't understand is that there ARE criminals and you can understand them all you like but they still need to face justice.

Sasuke was ready to execute him and I wish he had. Obito had killed many and manipulated the entire ninja world into ruining the Mist and laying the events to the death of the Uchiha as well as orphanising both of the main leads. He needs to be punished for this, what would Naruto really do to people as Hokage? Like...really.

He did the same thing for Nagato who had killed lots of people incl. trying to kill him but now Naruto just remembers him fondly. There was one panel where someone spoke to him about people who helped him get this far and it showed all of his dead influences.

Okay now right Asuma who helped teach him Wind Style and was a leaf Jounin isn't here but Nagato who almost killed everyone in it is? ????????????????

We could make a thread about this if you wanted because I think it warrants it. Even Kabuto who had disrespected the dead and was killing thousands of ninja across the battlefields wouldn't get proper punishment. If Naruto was fronted with him instead Naruto would try convert him and turn him into his friend u_u
