Well they fought the chapter before and he's using his final technique now. I don't think Gai is gonna last longer than a chapter in the 8th Gate cause it would be kind of strange for him to be alive using the 8th gate for so long. And Kishi does troll his characters sometimes Lol so I wouldn't be surprised to see Gai be on that list

You could be right. I usually feel like the pacing is kinda slow in Naruto so it's possible it'll pan out that way. The mourning would be too soon. A cliffhanger like that sounds more likely but I do still think that Gai won't be fighting in the 8th gate for more than a chapter
