nagato could summon different animals too, so it's not an asspull. probably have multiple contracts and can summon both(not at the same time tho, nagato was on some borderline god stuff)

That may no be be Katsuyu but a child of Katsuyu the way that Naruto did not summon the Boss and Sasuke Snake is the son or daughter of Orochimaru's old dead snake.
