I'm fairly new to this website, and I just joined today, but I'm really invested into anything Naruto related. Naruto has become a role-model of sorts for me and I've arrived to be better every day because of him.
Anyway, now that my personal introduction is over, I'd like to introduce my theory.
I've got a lot of different ideas about Naruto but I'm going to tackle this idea first. I personally believe that in order for the world to remain peaceful, like Naruto wants, the whole village system will have to change. I believe that if Naruto manages to defeat Madara, he will experience a revelation of sorts and realize that his dream of being hokage may be a little bit different than what he originally imagined it as.
If both Sasuke and Naruto want to become hokage, and Kishimoto wants Naruto and Sasuke to stay parallel, then the only way for that to happen is for them to work together. This may sound odd, but perhaps there could be multiple hokages. The reason Madara turned evil in the first place was because they placed the power in the hands of one person, not two. I believe that if Madara had become Hokage like the 1st intended, there still would have been some form of conflict. I see this as a recurring theme throughout the series. If you look at Danzo and the 3rd you see that both want to protect the village, but because Danzo isn't the one with power, he seeks to kill the 3rd and take the power for himself. If you go back to the Elder/Younger son problem, when the Sage of the 6 Paths decided to choose the younger son as his successor, he created a conflict with the elder son and ultimately led to this very War. It seems to me that the only way for the world to truly be at peace is for the Leadership System to change. Personally, I believe that by making both Naruto and Sasuke hokages, you allow Naruto to reach his dream, bring Sasuke back to the village, and prevent conflict by picking one or the other.
I've considered Representation as a possible system, but in the end all that does is diminish the power of Naruto and Sasuke. I know for sure that Sasuke would not return to a village that limits his power. I figure Naruto would accept less power in order to promote peace.
As for the possibility of neither of them becoming hokage, the only way I see this happening is if they both die. (Must stay parallel) I don't think Kishimoto plans on killing them both unless he leaves behind some form of descendant for both of them. Konohamaru would be a good choice to represent the Younger Son side, but who would represent the Elder Scroll side? There is no parallel for the future and that would mean Konohamaru would ultimately end up Hokage someday and that too would throw off the balance. (Kishimoto said Konohamaru would be a good Hokage)
He has mentioned that there will be a Naruto / Sasuke fight but he hasn't specified what will be on the line in said fight. I know that Naruto has said that if they fight, they will both die, but Sasuke has since changed and I believe that if they were to "fight for Hokage", they would end up tie-ing somehow and this would lead to the Multi-Hokage theory.
I don't see a situation where only one becomes hokage, and I don't see a situation where neither of them become hokage, so based on this I've decided that they must both "become hokage" whatever that may entail.
Obviously I believe that they will become a "dual-hokage", but I'm open to other possibilities as to how they will settle district bring the power.
