Personally the only aspect to Naruto's character I found disturbing was the child of prophecy.
As for Sasuke, his fixation on him was somewhat overrated by us the fans. Remember he never had the information we had, the only time Naruto actually received a hint of Sasuke's evil deeds was in the kage summit arc and right then and there he dropped the pursuit (albeit after a few humiliating moments).
In fact, right now Sasuke is staring him in the face and his reaction couldn't be more nonchalant. He couldn't care less at this point. And this level of devotion was not solely given to Sasuke. Mind you he completely lost his mind when he went to save Gaara and actually let the fox take over when Hinata was injured.
His idealism stretches to many characters, and although it is extreme, I find it incredibly endearing. Please remember this is fiction, just try and change your perspective a little to understand different characters. They are written for a specific taste.
For example, I find Sasuke a horrendous character, but I cannot in my lifetime argue he is a poorly written character. I can only describe the issues I have with him the same way you did with Naruto.
To each their own and peace out
