When it comes to saddest Naruto character death, I think the most common opinion I have seen is Jiraiya.
What is it about Pervy Sage's death that stands out/might stand out above the others? In my last semester of community college (fall '09), when I was talking to a classmate about Jiraiya's death, he said that you shouldn't kill the perverts.

For me it was the fact that he had been like a father to Naruto. And a dear friend to everyone else. He had a lot of character for a 2D drawing that stood out above others. He wasn't a tragic character with a grim attitude. He was very likable and seemed to be fun to be around. The Synergy between him and Naruto was just perfect. I would have loved to have seen him fight along side Naruto during the war and to see how proud he would have been to see Naruto become Hokage.

Most importantly...he was a lot like my own father...Pervy stuff included lol. He passed around the same time my father did too so it really hit me in the "feels" department it's choking me up a bit even now

RIP Erosennin :sniff:

Isn't he like the only relevant character that died? Maybe thats why.

He was the coolest guy. Sucked to see him die, almost had me in tears :T_T: Asuma's death was also sad.

Not to mention, he had a chance to escape and live, but decided to stay like a boss knowing he'd die.:score:

He was he first relevant character to die without either being a villain originally, or being killed by The Flashback Reaper. Sure, Asuma died before him, but no one cares about Asuma.

This.
He was an awesome character, by far one of the best pieces of Kishimoto's work.
Next thing is, most people (including me) didn't expect Kishimoto to kill him off, especially not in such a savage way. Yet his last thoughts were peaceful ones that made me tear up.

The heaviest impact of Jiraiya's death for me, was the time after it. You know, when Naruto heard about Jiraiya's death and gets really mad and all. I lost it completely when Iruka searched for the crying Naruto and shared a popsicle with him, just like J-man did before.
