Part I Sakura is mostly overlooked for the fact she didn't possess any extraordinary ability like most of her peers, and in contrast to Naruto and Sasuke her abilities were bland, and she didn't really present much until later on when she fights the 3 Sound nin. Which showed just how witty and smart she could be in battle even with basic ninja skills - which she utilized to a great extent.
She wasn't particularly the best, but her ability on its own and with consideration of her human weakness very much accentuated by Kishimoto, it's not hard to tell that she was an exceptional shinobi.
If I would classify her specifically, I'd say she's a combat-type, but with also profound talent and skill in Genjutsu.
Between her and her teammates, she was easily the best at dispelling genjutsu, and there's an instance in which Sasuke's visual prowess became futile while Sakura displayed the ability to dispel said genjutsu.
Another remarkable aspect of Sakura in Part I is her easy CC.
In all tasks concerning CC, she surpassed her teammates and easily mastered them way before they did.
> Just my two cents.
