What the hell was Itachi's goal...?

Why was he even in the Akatsuki? It's never explained if he wants Nagato to make the bijuu weapon or if he wants infinite tsukiyomi to be cast...

And then when he gets revived, he's hell bent on ruining that by ending Edo Tensei, saving everyone(although damn Madara)


So why was he in the Akatsuki if he instantly went to ruin their plans?
If he had never joined them they would be much less successful.

It's kind of stupid.

Itachi was spying on Akatsuki for Konoha.

Itachi joined Akatsuki in order to keep an eye on the organization and Tobi. He made sure they wouldn't be able to attack the Leaf.

He wanted to watch it's movements along with Konoha and Sasuke... and slyly Naruto after part 1.

There's not an awful lot he could have done to stop that.

Especially if it was Pain doing exactly what he did.
He still helped capture tailed beasts, which lead to the present.

And there's not a great deal of hope...

Remember, he joined to keep an eye on the orginzation? with a backround of him killing the entire uchiha clan, obvosly they let him joined...... Itachi plans ahead you know.... thats why he send his crow in narutos body, in the time when he gets revived from the edo-tensi, so he can have control over his body, like madara did... Its in the manga lol -_-...

The crow he put in Naruto wasn't to break him out of ET he put that there so that the genjutsu would be used on Sasuke.

So imagine Itachi never got revived, as he never knew he would be.
The Akatsuki would be winning right now, and they kind of are anyway.

He was a true ninja who had decieved those he was working with aka akatsuki to keep an eye on them and to make sure that they did not harm konoha. Although that being said im wondering how far he would have gone to sell the deception

Some people theorized that Itachi turned into Jiraiya's anonymous spy (like giving info on the leader of the Akatsuki and what not), but we can't know for sure. We're just led to believe that he was spying on the Akatsuki.
