That was 4 years ago. France won the WC in 1998, Italy in 2006 and both teams got themselves knocked out in the first round of the WC after their victory.

Spain has one of the strongest teams present in Brazil and is one of the favorites to win it again. Someone who claims otherwise doesn't know anything about football, however that doesn't take away that you seem to forget that a period of 4 years makes a world of difference, that Spain got butchered by Brazil not too long ago in the Confederations Cup final, that Barcelona didn't win anything the past season and that the overall domination of the Spanish tiki-taka football with 70% ball possession is coming at an end. Real and Atlético Madrid clearly demonstrated that this season. Not to mention Spain always has had world class players in their national teams, still their results were extremely poor before the Eurocup 2008. If having a team with world class players would be enough to win a WC, half of the participating teams are going to become world champion.
