What stopped nagato from switching to ems?

because it was implanted into him as a Rinnegan & he didn't know it was previously a sharingan plus the rinnegan doesn't automatically revert back into sharingan with the depletion of chakra like the MS does.. maybe . Also Kakashi had his eye implanted as a 2tomoe sharingan but thanks to Obito/Zetsu it evolved into 3tomoe & Ms. Kakashi can only use these stages of the eye : 2T, 3T, MS. AO has a byakugan implanted , but it is covered up, and when he uses it he screams "BYAKUGAN!" as if he is activating it and only keeps it covered to hide the fact that he has byakugan instead of because it will drain his chakra or keep from using it accidentally like Kakashi with his covered sharingan.

Kakashi got his eye at sharingan, and awakened Mangekyou because it was Obito's eye and they both activated because they shared a connection. But he never reverted back because he couldn't, if he could, don't you think he would have so that he wouldn't have to keep his eye covered and to reserve chakra?


Same can go for Nagato, Rinnigan was implanted into him at some point, so he can just turn it off because it was implanted as Rinnigan. Also, Nagato dosent have the uchiha brain to have special signals to activate sharingan, so its impossible for him to have it.

he couldnt revert back to the normal eye yes. But his eye was still able to evolve and change from 3T to MS. That just explains how he cant change his eye back to normal. Although i see your point, and if nothing else is right, then that is probably the correct answer. But it officially hasn't been explained. But i agree for that being the most correct answer possible without it being 100% right.

Now that I think about it, it seems like you can't devolve the eye unless it evolved while in your own socket.

Kakashi had the Sharingan transplanted and it evolved to the Mangekyou while in his socket. He could switch to MS whenever he needs to but he still can't deactivate Obito's sharingan so he has to cover it instead.

Nagato on the other hand had the Rinnegan transplanted in that stage so perhaps he can't go down to the inferior stages unless the EMS evolved tp the Rinnegan while in his socket.
Sound plausible?

You cant say its because hes not an uchiha (kakashi) you cant say its because he received it at the final stage (just your own, no fact speculaton). There is no answer, its probably just plot.

Kishi didnt plan to have the Rinnegan be the actual Final Stage of the Sharingan until Shippuden. It was its own class.

When Kakashi got the eye, it was 2T right? Maybe the eye can only be changed if it is advanced further. If that's true, Kakashi's 2T to MS would make sense while Nagato (whom only knew the power of the Rinnegan) could not revert it to a lesser form or even recognize that there was one.

However, this doesn't explain why Kakashi didn't revert back to 2T to conserve chakra in low stamina situations, or while he was just walking around Konoha with it covered or not. At the same time, maintaining 3T may have been Kakashi's choice. It could be possible that the difference in the chakra usage from 2T to 3T was negligible to him, or he just really preferred/got used to 3T.
