Is DBZ considered a gag manga/anime? Nope
Is DBZ considered an Adventure manga/anime? Nope
Is DBZ considered an Action Fighting manga/anime? Yes
Is DBZ considered an OP action fighting manga with omnipotent characters, universe busters, and galaxy bench pressers?
NO!!!!!
What made dbz awesome is it didnt focus directly on the main character like in naruto, goku actually died multiple times in the series and was ressurected since king yemma made him an angel and a guardian of after life.
Dbz is also awesome because it had a higher variety of villians thru out of the series, there was also some very interesting characters designs that akira toriyama created such as perfect cell, ginyu force, different races of aliens such as nameks and yardrats.
But what actually ruined Dbz?
I personally think is how OP the dragon balls becomes, by being able to bring back people to life multiple times.
It pretty much makes death useless, many other animes take death very seriously, once you die, your gone and it gives a sense of to the characters that are struggling to win in a battle.
If DBZ was aiming to to be a action fighting manga, it needed to be able to sacrifice some of those things. such as no death reviving, no dragon balls saving your ass every time.
Thats why my favorite DBZ timeline was the future saga when we see gohan and trunks basicly struggling to survive against the android that are basicly committing a genocide of a human race, because they hate them for some unknown unexplained reason. It probably was the best moments in the series
IF DBZ WAS OP LIKE SAINT SEIYA VERSE OR TOPPA GURREN LOGGAN VERSE I SEE THAT MAKING ALOT OF SENSE BUT SINCE ITS NOT, i think it should have focused more on a dramatic side instead of just fighting and action side when no one ever dies.
