There are somethings you can't break and then repair. Ships are like taht.

And your point is? Going Merry was pre franky (amateur ship maintenance) the sunny is frankys ship and he is constantly keeping it in good shape. His condition for joining the crew was expressly to keep it in a condition to allow them to conquer the grandline. It's also made from special adam wood so it's several times more durable then merry was. Navigator/helmsman/shipwright, these are all covered by franky and nami.

They don't need anyone specifically for that role (doesn't Franky already do it?) Imo, what they are really missing is a bona-fide strategist - the Shikamaru or Armin from AoT. Of course Oda will never create that sort of character.

the new member dsnt have to has a position it`s a pirate ship fighters are the priority the other ones are just there to spport them on the road the sh`s just happened to know how to fight in additon to thier postions so it dsnt matter actually if the new member will fill a postion or not actually i hope he is just a fighter cause that will ensure he will be a strong one ,better than some one weak and all he has is his postion like nami all she is doiing is wasting the precious panel time (at least for someone who dsnt like fanservice)

The point is that them steering is so much a factor that it can make ships irreparable. Even if the wood is stronger Even if he keeps it up to par one strong strong wind into a rock face would split a ship down the middle. Frankly franky can't fix a ship that is split in half.

Need - Something required to progress and without it you can no longer continue towards your goal.

They can go around the world without a cabin boy.

They've done well without a lookout (maybe Viola?), ship guard (something Bartolomeo could fill) or Helmsman (Jinbe?), you see: there are a lot of roles that COULD be filled, which is probably more than WILL be used

plus ontop of that most of the time franky isnt steering the ship and without math and scans I wont just believe it to be so.

Because he doesn't need to be steering the ship 24/7. He only needs to steer the ship when they are under attack or need to change direction.

Scan or atleast instances of this happening? we are ignoring pre-franky joining for obvious reasons. But back to EL we can use that.
