When you think of a career or the job you want, what drives you to aim to be what you desire? Do any of you ever get the pressure of society? Do you have a personal story behind what you want to do?

---------------------My Story-----------------------
I want to become a Biologist/Geneticist/Doctor (all 3 and mix it all into one)- I desire to cure or help find the cure to many deadly diseases; specially Cancer.
I lost my older brother to cancer, my aunt, close people to me and currently my cousin that's 19, is sick with Cancer. Yesterday, I heard news that the family doctor who use to treat me when I as a child, asked my aunt when would I return to the hometown I grew up because I promised him that one day I would become a doctor, he needs 'fixing' now; he has cancer.
It's probably a path I should take, there was a time when I had decided that it was my dream then I got lost and believed that the only reason I wanted to find the cure was because I felt guilty that I only stood and watched people who meant a lot to me die. So I let it go..and after doing so, my cousin falls ill to cancer, it hurt but I knew it wasn't for me to change it. So I went on with wanting to be a psychologist, then this news. When I heard of the promised I had made, I got reminded that I've been trying to turn away from it.
I've never been a man of god or religion but I have always been searching/seeking like some of you for my purpose in life and honestly, growing up and watching all this happen, did affect me. In a odd way, if such god exist or it's just mere coincidence, I believe that I have more reasons to do this, I want to be someone who helps in the race for the cure and other diseases.

That's my personal story behind it. Do any of you guys ever feel like this or had picked a career because of things that have happened around you and want to change them?
Also don't joke around, if you want to share a story or just tell your career, feel free to. If you violate the NB global rules, I will not think twice before reporting you.
