They had reasons to give up; seriously Neji lost his father to destiny bs when he was 4 and branded with a seal which was made to cage others. He was made to be a servant for others' lives and he lived his childhood knowing that. Lee could not even use a basic thing to achieve his dream. He was basicly crippled for what he wanted to be and he knew that; a child realisticly should dream to grow up. But they became what they wanted.
