What makes someone "ONE of the best" in a video game?

Many mixed opinions on this subject. Kinda hard to give a solid answer. Some, think that being the best is being at the top of the leaderboards, others think as long as they win that they are better, and others think being acknowledged by others constitutes being the best.

What do you guys think? Me personally, i think being the best is when you know all the top people, and all the top people know you. If only the top players can see you in the game, then you know that you can roll with the best. SO why not be called ONE of the best. Acknowledgment means nothing to me because who cares about the opinions of the ones that you beat? They are usually bad ones because they are mad they lost anyway.

Oh, and Read the words carefully, I said ( ONE ) of the best. Meaning im not saying someone is ( THE ) best, but ( ONE ) of the best.

Leaderboards do matter to see how you compare, but so many people cheat the leaderboards now so it's not 100% accurate. I'm good at zombies but I don't try to play with the best guys on it, I like playing with people that are fun to talk to.

the best can only be determined by a series of tournaments starting at the regional level going up to the international level. if you can make it to the international level then you are "one of the best" especially if you rank top 50% at that level
