Ok so I've just recently started watching One Piece, I f*ckin' love this sh*t! I'm so glad I decided to give the series a chance.
Naruto is still my all time favorite but overall, Oda is better at one thing than Kishi, and this one thing is pretty important for me. Keeping main characters relevant...

Kishi did a great job at this in part 1 put strayed away from it WAYYYYYYYYY to much in part 2. In every arc, each straw hat gets their moment of shine, whether it be big or small. Oda creates many antagonist as to make sure every character can seem equally relevant and useful to the team. He makes me care about every straw hat member (even Ussop, whom I dislike very much at times)

Kishi only made 3 out of the many main characters seem relevant on a consistent basis (Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi) Sakura impressed me but eventually got the short end of the stick. What annoyed me SO much is that Kishi tried to give the characters development but did it in such an half assed way and some of the readers actually bought into that shit. In chapter 632 and 633 he gave Sakura and the rest of the rookie 9 (besides Naruto and Sasuke) one move to show some sort of development as if it were enough to satisfy the fans. People were impressed by them destroying some Juubi fodder clones that were obviously made to make them look good..cause we all know they couldn't stand a chance against Madara, Obito, or the actual Juubi.

Sorry Sakura fans but she still hasn't done anything impressive (summoning 1/10 with the help of somebody else doesn't count)

So yeah i still like Naruto much much more than One Piece at the moment but I gotta say Oda is much better at making people care about character the characters, it's honestly too late for Kishi..Neji's death didn't even hit me that hard because he had been so irrelevant in part 2 of the series that I just didn't care about him.

What do you guys think?

You're probably gonna rustle some jimmies in this thread..

OT: Completely agree. Oda does a phenomenal job not only keeping his main characters relevant but he develops side characters and keeps them relevant as well. Besides the 9 Strawhats who are always contributing to the plot, we've been seeing characters that we were introduced to years ago are always showing up even as he introduces new characters. I think it's because the plot in One Piece is so broad, it's easier for Oda to keep up with many characters at once while properly developing them. You always got to remember the characters in OP cause even the ones who don't seem important play a role years later. It's f***in awesome!

one piece has an assload of chapters so oda can focus on character development more than in naruto
Sorry man that's not a legit excuse. One Piece is not that far ahead of Naruto, Kishi has had more than enough chapters to keep characters relevant. He had this entire freakin war arc that has been going on for 3 goddamn years now to develop our old favorites but he didn't. Instead he decided to focus on people like Darui and Team 10 (which has already gotten a sh*tload development compared to Team Kureani and Gai)

i completely agree i think onepiece is much better as a hole.. i mean i like naruto but as u said most characters are completely irrelevant apart from a few which makes there deaths seem like they have no impact..

i mean if a member of the strawhats were to die it would hit the fans a lot more than what neji did or anyone else for that matter..

Definitely, every arc he brings in a character that's so interesting that you just hopes he writes them in the straw hat pirates. I remember when I first saw Brook, he instantly pulled me in and made me care about him. Especially when he connected him to the Laboon story, I thought was so damn cool lol

Kishi should have given more times to the villains . Like more fights with the akatsuki and the rookies and their sensei getting chances . The war could have been a great opportunity for this . No matter how much i love NAruto but in all honest opinion , Kishi had the potential to make the war arc a lot better .

I really like both series, but i somewhat agree with you.. at the moment sense im not caught up with the one piece story it interest me a lot more than Naruto, allthough i like them equally. Both are good mangas and people shouldn't hate one because they like the other :D

Good thread! :win:

One Piece is garbage.

INb4 this is moved to the One Piece section and I get ganged up on
I thought the same thing at first so I can;'t get mad at your opinion, but I 100% disagree. The power levels and attacks may be extremely overdone at times but character development is handled much better in OP than it is in Naruto and character development is one of the most important aspects at writing a story.
