What makes Mei resistant to the mist she blows out of her mouth?

Mei's Boil Release is certainly a lethal Kekkei Genkai as demonstrated when the corrosive mist she blew out of her mouth melted the ribcage of Sasuke's Susanoo:

However, I cannot see why she is immune to it, as she indirectly stated here:

The above scan also reveals that Mei can control the pH of the mist, so she can increase the acidity of the mist to a certain range where it is fatal to others but not to herself. However, Kishi never explained why this was the case. Even Hanzo was susceptible to his own poison gas and consequently had to wear a mask:

So what do you guys think? Is it Plot no Jutsu or is there some underlying reason that I am not aware of? I am not a Mei hater, btw =D

I don't think there is an official explanation. If I had to guess maybe she can lower the PH of the mist just around her, while keeping the pH of the mist around her opponent strong?

Every Jutsu carries a risk that can potentially harm the user. Just like how the overuse of the MS's abilities can lead to one's blindness. However, I guess you do have a point :|
