A Madara or obito type, who has a reason but goes the wrong way about it with good intentions?

An Oro type who just loves being evil for the lulz

I prefer the complex type who has a reason for doing things and not the psycho cliche villain

1) The Villain must be intimidating and strong
-Intimidating villain: Aizen
-Not intimidating villain: Naraku from InuYasha
2) The villain should have a character more than just "I will destroy the world,Muahahaha"
-Villain with good character: Nagato
-Villian with Generic character: Voldemort
3) Character development is encouraged, but should be avoided if it ruins his character.
-Good Villain Development: Meruem
-bad Villain Development: Obito, in my opinion

It depends on the story ..but for me some are : the corrupted/drunk with power , reasons but stay truth to their beliefs in the end .

I prefer Villians like Magneto or nagato. Pasts forged in hell give rise to tyranical villians. I am okay with villians who want to see the world burn too like Orochimaru. I prefer Obito over Madara, Sasuke over Obito, Madara seems all over the place in his motives. At one point is was because his siblings died and he wanted to place everyone in a dream world where these things don't happen anymore. Then he wants to just feel skulls crack and the thrill of the battle? What happened to infinate Tsukuyomi? Is he even interested in that anymore? or does he just want to fight the best of the best?

...Neither. lol

They gotta have some sense of realism, obviously (gotta seem real with their motivations, behavior and whatnot), but at the same time, if a villain is done well enough, even that isn't really necessary (i.e. Johan Liebert from Monster). I've gotta be able to hate them as a person, but at the same time, feel awed by them as a character. And, of course, they gotta pose a real challenge for the protagonist, whether that means being more powerful initially or scarring them psychologically.

I agree with what you posted here. To add to this. A villain is only as good as the hero. The villian should be a reflection of what the hero could have been had he made the same choices and vise versa. This is why I believe Obito made a more suitable villian for naruto than Madara. But agreed we should hate and be awed by the villian in the same respect with love and are inspired by the hero/heroin.

They are each other's shadow.

It depends a good villain can be multiple things , as long as the character is written well

For example a well spoken intelligent cold and calculated villain

May be just as entertaining as a ruthless unpredictable socio and psychopath

One May have a purpose and one may defy purpose

Just down to the writer and how well they come across

All villians are sociopaths. But a good villian has real purpose and a true objective they want to complete.
The ones that do it for fun is just chaos and has no real meaning to it.

Conviction. I HATE it when villains are unsure of their motives or dedicate their entire lives to evil because of one traumatic event when they were young. If you are gonna be evil, be evil. It just makes them look like rebellious teenagers. There are a few exceptions to this, but they have to be written very well (see Hxh). That is why I loved Kakuzu and Hidan so much, there is no way in hell that you are gonna turn them good or make them regret their decisions.

If your entire life's motives and goals can be changed by talking to one person for a day, you are a shitty villain.

*cough* Obito *cough*
