What makes a good character?

So, what do you believe what makes a good character in storytelling?

Is it personality, motives, background, appearance, power, role in the story? Is it everything I named that contributes? Is it combination of those things? Is it fanbase? Or is it moments that are awesome? Is it something else? Does it depend on what kind of story it is?

What do the characters you chose share?

Well if they are a good character, it can either mean that they do 'good' deeds/actions within NV or they have a cool backstory/development/powers (or whatever else) that makes them likable to the watchers.

In terms of the first definition, i'd say Naruto. He is trying to achieve peace and considers all shinobi equal.

In terms of the second definition, i'd say Kakashi/Jiraiya/Itachi. They are my favorite characters because they are badass or funny.

Oh right then in that case, I would personally go with Kakashi or Itachi. They have both been through a lot yet they are still unbelievably badass. Kakashi is also a funny character and has a good sense of right and wrong, so I like him

What makes a good character??

1. He/She should be strong. Must have a good arsenal ~ for girls/women (.) (.) bigger ones required.
2. Shouldn't be fearful to take any one on. No matter who that is!!
3. Can cover for others while fighting.
4. Good back ground story.
5. Must have the will to change and challenge.
6. Should be battle type. Battle smart.

if all this comes together that character is bound to have a huge fanbase.

*Conclusion* ~ Nagato had all those in him so that makes him a good character, along with some great characters.

Why the **** is Hagoromoo, Ashura and Kurenai on that list? We've only seen the apperance of Ashura in one chapter and he didn't even spea, We've seen almost nothing from Hagoromoo that shows us that he is a good character, same goes for Kurenai.

Because Kurenai was show to be sad after Asuma died and has been shown as one of the four main Jonin who lead Konoha 11 team.

Ashura and Hagoromo there may be someone who likes them. I also asked if power is important. These two characters have a lot of power.

I am asking whether what they were shown is enough for someone to consider them good characters.
