We all what to try to find that Perfect anime but it almost seems impossible.
Even though we have many great anime's out we know they can be better and we as the viewers deserve better, Right?

So my question to you guys.
What makes a good anime?
What does it need to have in it for you to be satisfied?
- Good animation
- Great fights
- Awesome plot
- good character development
Just a couple things to mention.

Last question, What anime is right now considered the closest to being perfect it not in your opinion The perfect anime?
- One piece
- Hunter X Hunter
- Attack on Titans
- Naruto
Just a couple examples

Lets have a good discussion.

I find everything that a good anime or the best anime should have in naruto ...!!! But the fact that there are too many breaks and fillers that it takes out the fun and fill my heart with hate red towards it ...!!!

I really liked that you mentioned good though out fights.
What would you consider a good fight. With power or clever strategy ?
Interesting abilities ( Mystogan vs Laxus ) and one of them using a strategy that the average viewer would've never come up with ( Naruto vs Pain, when Naruto took out the Hell path )

Well since everyone mentioned all the basic needs of a good anime , I just want to add that I prefer fights that have great moves with action AND INTELLECTUAL strategy, nobody likes fights that make no sense..
Shingeki No kyojin is probably (right now) the most closest :win:

I really can't believe that Attack on Titan is being mentioned as 'nearly' perfect when it's still ongoing. Can't you guys wait till it's over to rank it? What if the series limps a bit as there's more episodes? Judge it in its entirety. Yes, it started off on rocking heels but what matters is the finish line.

As for the thread question:

Well, taking good things up - there are series that decide to choose an original concept (like a power, a curse, a situation) and develop the concept. Thereby, they'll expand it by showing its origins, its aftermaths, its impact, the complexities of it and the influence it got on the plot. Then we got some series, that are qualified as excellent as they got no plotholes in their story and its stories flow smoothly with humor, tragedy, drama, thrills, realism ect... and with a right tone to its genre. And then, we got series which got awesome characters that are continuously showing their facets and also being developed.

In a way, an perfect anime would be one that got all these 3 elements; provided that it avoids some drawbacks and got some necessary advantages. Like the lesser the cliches characters/concept, the better! The right dose of fanservice - neither excessive nor overbearing and also not used in wrong moments. Then we got correct character interactions that appeals to the viewer. The length of series is also a factor - should not be stretched up to a point where it limps the series but it should also not be too short that it leaves minimal impact. Also, it should cater to its genre audience. Like if it's a shounen, it needs to have great fights, if it's a thriller - lots of adrenaline thrills, horror - more gore and scares and so on... And lastly, needless to say, for an anime to be perfect - it should possess great design, great animation, great seiyuus and great music.

That kind of depends if it's a dubbed anime than the dubbing is top for me. Naruto isn't nearly as effective spoken in English as when read in English. And on that note Baccano! is one of the best Dubbed Anime's I've seen yet, those voice actors understood the emotions accurately.

For me though Good animation makes an anime. Followed by good fight scenes and plot in a close 2nd 3rd, more often than not with a weak plot come weak fights. Kenichi has some of the best fight scenes as far as "authenticity" goes, they get very detailed in the actual motions of the action.

A perfect anime for me is one that doesn't try be more than it should. Baccano! was a perfect anime and so was Desert Punk because they both accomplished exactly what they set out to do.
