When Sasuke needed to jump through that portal, he EASILY could have chosen Sakura and switched places with her. After all, they wouldn't need her to jump back. This most likely would have been his first thought. But instead, he scanned the area looking for ANOTHER option. Deny it all you want, but that hesitation speaks volumes about Sasuke's actual caring character. He understood the easiest option, but CHOSE to seek a different one, risking the entire shinobi world.

And the icing on the top is that he also caught a collapsing Sakura.

Yes, he cares for Sakura and company, for multiple reasons. They're pretty much the last living people on earth, so I wouldn't want any of my friends to die in the case that everyone else is. Sakura's the LAST female.
