I know that there are a lot of people who hate Christianity because they see the people who call themselves: Christians, and how they act daily.

Currently, the statistics show that 32% of the world is Christian (2.2 Billion people). This means that 1/3 people you meet will be a follower of Christ. However, this is completely false as you know how these people behave resembles nothing like Jesus.

I have heard people on this board says things like: "lot's of my friends who are Christians, smoke pot, have ***, lie, etc."

Just the lifestyle of these people clearly indicates that they are not True Believers.

Matthew 7:21: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

My Story:

I never believed in Jesus Christ personally even though I went to church every week from when I was a kid till my late teens. I just went because my Mom used to go. However, I never called myself a Christian and did not know God. I used to swear a lot, watch porn, get angry all the time.

However, one night, I was alone and watching a movie during the Christmas holidays. When, I got this sudden urge to turn off the TV and pull out my Bible and turn to a passage in Acts as I heard a sermon on this chapter a few months ago.

In Acts 8:26-40: Philip went to see an Ethiopian because an angle of the Lord told him to go talk to him. The Ethiopian was in a chariot and was reading a passage. Philip was walking alongside the Ethiopian and asked him if he understood what he was reading. The Ethiopian needed help to understand the passage.

This is what he was reading:

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading(quoted from Isaiah 53):

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”

This passage was about Jesus Christ and how he will die on the cross even though he did no wrong.

After Philip explained this message to him, the Ethiopian said : “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”

This broke me down and made me realize how stubborn I was, as this person read a small portion of the Bible and accepted Christ but I heard many messages for decades and I never accepted him.

So, I accepted Jesus that night by believing that He died on the cross for my sins and He rose again and through Him, we have eternal life.

How Christ has Changed my life:

  • When you accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes inside of you and will live in you and will help you grow and become more like Jesus.

Ephesians 1:13-14: When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

  • I started reading the Bible daily and understanding it more and more through the wisdom that God gave.

  • I looked for more ways to serve Jesus such as playing music in my church, talking to retired people, etc.

  • I started to hate my sins such as porn, masturbation, anger etc. I mean, how can you say you love Jesus and yet keep watching these things and doing these things which are about pleasing yourself.

    3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;

John 14:15: 15 “If you love me, keep my commands.

  • I started to talk to my friends about Jesus.

I Peter 3:15: But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

  • I shared the gospel with others in the hopes that they may come to Jesus. I cannot save them. Only God can and the people have to make the decision on their own to go to Christ. You cannot force someone but you must talk about Jesus and what he has done, to them.

What it means to be True Christian:
  • First, you have heard the message and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and the sacrifice on the cross, and the promise of his coming.

John 6: 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

  • Then you must get baptized which is an outward showing of the rebirth that occurred already when you put your faith in Christ.

John 3:15: Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

  • Baptism is the first command after accepting Jesus and then you live daily by reading the Word of God, understanding it as well through studying (different than just reading), then you learn the context and then finally apply the Word of God in your daily practice in how you behave.

  • There should be a change in a person who claims to be a Believer as it is a new life and there must be a change in the heart which should also come on the outside. You will be changed from the inside out.

Ezekiel 18:30: Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. 31 Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit.

  • Believe that the only way to get to Heaven is through the work that was done on the cross and that nothing you do can get you to Heaven. None of your "good" works matters. What matters is believing in Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8: 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

  • This does not mean that you can live in the same way you lived. There must be a change if you profess to be a Christian. However, the things you do to help others is because of the love that Jesus has shown to you. You do not do good things because it will get you into Heaven (they won't).

1 Peter 4:4 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. 2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4

  • You care about others and help others:

Galatians 6:9-10:Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

  • You talk about Jesus and the Cross to others:

Mark 16:15: He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

  • You start hating sin more and more and see how pure Jesus was:

Romans 6: What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

  • Finally, you must realize that only God is perfect. You are not perfect and you are still a sinner. However, your Lifestyle should show a progression to stop sinning more and more and when you fall (and you will sin), confess, repent and keep striving till the day you die and/or when Jesus returns.

1 John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Let me tell you what's funny about this forum. People who are on here, mostly because they have nothing else to do/kill time somehow never have the time to read a post like this. Doesn't make sense right?

I mean it can be about anything. As soon as they see the effort they skim for keywords. When the whole reason they're here is to kill time in the first place. Lol

You're going to get title responses to this rather than post responses. Or typical religious debate responses. But thanks for sharing your experience.

is it bad to say that I used to be a christian
I can understand why you might think that. However, if you search your heart fully, can you truly say that you were really saved by Christ?

I say this because of 1 John 2:19:
19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

I mean, we can easily deceive ourselves into thinking we were really saved as many people go to church every week but then behave however they please on the other 6 days.

The Bible really shows that if you accepted Jesus and truly believed in Him, then you can never turn away from him.

Hebrews 6:
4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[c] away, to be brought back to repentance.

Hmmm, according to the OP's message (and I agree that these bulletpoints would signify a legitimate Christian), the population of Christians would diminish significantly were they subject to these requirements. A lot of people around here aren't followers of Christ, they're just fans. One bulletpoint needs to also be added: you just cannot judge people, no matter who they are, because that is not your place to judge, correct? The only guy who can judge is the big guy upstairs and the smelly brimstony guy downstairs.

why cant i be christian and smoke pot tho?
You can, don't worry. You can also drink too, however, you cannot be a drunkard. Depends on the denomination. Orthodox Christians have a strict requirement of recreational things.

The Bible states that once you are saved, you should strive to serve God and not yourself. Hence, the saying in Luke 9:23

"If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

Galatians 5:
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want.

And in the same chapter, the writer expands on some examples of fleshly desires:

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Drugs and alcohol can take up your time, money and efforts which you could put to better use by helping others.

For example, you can drink a glass of wine, but if you are easily tempted by alcohol, why would you drink and hangout in settings like bars, parties where there is alcohol, etc.

It is better for you to stop drinking than to fall back into your old habits. Same with pot.

Christ gives a new life, so you cannot keep thinking about what makes you feel good. You should seek the things that Jesus seeks.

I was thinking about this just yesterday. Jesus drank alcohol, and Christians today are allowed to drink alcohol, and it's more harmful than weed.
Marijuana's likely the least harmful drug we got, next to caffeine. However, the lethal dose of caffeine is just shy of 3 teaspoons. That makes caffeine very dangerous, even though we drink far, far lower than that.

Drugs and alcohol can take up your time, money and efforts which you could put to better use by helping others.

For example, you can drink a glass of wine, but if you are easily tempted by alcohol, why would you drink and hangout in settings like bars, parties where there is alcohol, etc.

By this logic, any hobby we do is taking up the time, money, and efforts used to help others. Like posting on Narutobase and playing videogames. Helping people is great, but I don't think Christianity is all about throwing away your humanly values in place of altruism. That's Buddhism. Considering your posting record, I doubt all 127 of your posts is all about bringing people to Christ.

Nah I can't and this seems like your own interpretation. My friends like to smoke weed because it helps them with stress so i need to help relieve stress that's how interpret it. Not to mention God put it on the earth himself. Good day

I personally don't believe in Jesus and even if he was real I believe he was a prophet who just like David who is also fictional was bestowed the blessings from God to be "king" yet just like David ,Jesus got full of himself and told people the only way to God is through him much like how David was trying to be God when he got power. That's not the message God sent Jesus to deliver thus he was crucified . But this just what I believe

Yes, the percentage of True Christains is this world is more like 1/10th of 32%, if even that.

About Judging others, let's look at what the Bible says:

-In Romans 14, the chapter talks about preferences which are within the realm of not being sin, such as not eating meat versus eating meat.

14 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

So, preferences are fine so long as they are not sin God does not mind if we just eat vegetables etc.

-The rest of the chapter shows that only God will judge.

10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written:

“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.’”
12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

-You should not judge others, because Christ is coming and he will Judge in his second coming:

The famous John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

However, we must talk about Jesus so that others may also know Him and come to Jesus. The only way you get saved is through God. So we talk to them because the Word is God as well:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Lastly, if someone is blatantly sinning as a Christian, you talk to him gently to get him to confess and repent not because you are judging him but because you care for him:

Matthew 18
15 “If your brother or sister sins,[c] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’[d] 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven.

19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

It is fine to drink and smoke once in a while but just saying that it is a sin if it becomes an obsession and leads you to other things. For example, drinking a lot can lead you to angry fights, not being completely conscious of your actions etc.

See my new reply below please.

Yes you are right about hobbies. Hobbies are good but Christ has to be the center of your life and then you fit in hobbies wherever you have time in your day.

While most people do all other things like watch TV, go on youtube, etc first and then if they have time, then they read the Bible.

Hobbies are good. It's just that we should think about Jesus throughout the day and not just during Church or when we read the Bible.
