The curse of Shinju Tree, I guessHashirama isn't the only one who can make living trees with wood release yamato can do it too[You must be registered for see links].
It isn't fair for hashirama to shorten his life span when using his powerful techniques when those with equally powerful or even more powerful abilities suffer no such drawbacks
The curse of Shinju Tree, I guess
Sometimes if god called you to meet him, how OP you are, no one can escape from dead even you are eating or reading a Newspaper at that time.More like plot BS. Kishimoto probably couldn't find a way to explain hashirama's death so he made the life force thing up

That is called as Sudden death.
He only used it once though :| If his standard mokuton compared to Hashirama, I am sure that he would have felt the drawbacks sooner enough. Powerful techniques require sacrifice. Only demigods(juubi/pseudo juubi jinchurikis,Hagoromo.....etc) and Kaguya can use their powerful techniques freely because of their lineage/fruit. To unlock mangekyou, an other must be sacrificed. To unlock EMS and bypass this drawback, you need another sacrifice. If mokuton does not consume lifeforce, how did Hashirama die when he was hailed as the god of shinobi? Earth+Water creates lifeless wood and his lifeforce creates trees. His Keikei Genkai freely creating lifeforce seems unlikely. Just an explanation and I might be biased, I recognise that.
Indeed no one can escape death still doesn't change the fact that the writer more than likely made the life force thing up.
The sacrifice is still way too severe.
No KG still went as far as threatening the life of the user. I mean as we saw with obito, seeing rin die was enough for him to awaken his MS, he didn't need to kill her himself. Also in madara's case izuna willingly gave him his eyes. The point is unlike mokuton there are ways to receive powerful abilities while not without sacrifice but with less pain. In hashirama's case his sacrifice is not only inescapable but there is also no way to make it easier for him.
That is exactly my point, kishi didn't know how to kill him off without creating the life force absorption of mokuton. I really don't see why having a kekkei genkai that creates life without drawbacks is unlikely. There is no explanation for why it shortens hashirama's life force, this proves that kishi just added this at the last minute to explain hashirama's death.
Life isn't something that is to be created easily without some form of drawback. @ Bold Lol Lol Lol Well, this is Kishi we are talking about, so....
Agreed this kishi. Still he never explained why creating life shortens lifespans
