I just happened to watch all three of them recently (I don't even want to count the newest one), and I was counting pros and cons of the series. I'm torn between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade. I keep trying to type out the reason why I would prefer one over the other, but I can't. I always had a crush on Marion (Karen Allen) and she played a really strong female supporting character, but how can one deny Sean Connery? Geez. I can't decide this logically. My gut goes with RotLA, but I can't give any specific reasons why. Maybe it's the iconic imagery from the opening scene.

What do you guys think? What is your favorite?

Explain please.
Indiana Jones plays no role in the outcome of the story. If he weren’t in the film, it would turn out exactly the same… If he weren’t in the movie, the Nazis would still have found the Ark, taken it to the island, opened it up, and all died, just like they did.

Is what Amy said. Which is for the most part true.

It's very true, and may even make the movie better. That is pretty characteristic for Indiana to get involved in a situation where he makes things worse or doesn't affect anything. I suppose his contribution would have been that because of his involvement the Ark wasn't just left on an island; it was shipped into a U.S. government warehouse where it was able to be used as a Family Guy joke/reference later.
