If you are that much sure about your own ideology and thought process then you don't require a discussion on NB and also you add a question mark in your thread what is worse ``?'' So we are just expressing our thoughts.

This is a very difficult question when everyone in here, you and me and probably op has parent, so our feeling is more toward to Sasuke than Naruto. If we are all orphan from the start and got same treatment like Naruto we would share our feeling with Naruto.

Most answer to scenario 2 because you are all experienced parenthood and you would rather become alone than loosing them. This say parenthood is the most important to you so any 1 die is not acceptable. You had the feeling and it is cheat to have the feeling and choose to become alone so "your parent" dont get kill or you dont have to experience that.
But to any orphan that got dangerous virus, im sure they wanted to be loved every single second of their lives and that is all matter to them. If you dont have that kind of parenthood feeling from your very real life then im sure you will choose over to have some love and if someone else die, it is not matter at all.

Naruto had pretty much the same, parents dying right after his birth, being a Jinchuriki... Gaara's father wasn't an exact father-figure for him, he was just another man in the village. Real heart-breaking stuff is when his uncle tried to kill him.
It's more messed up when the one close to you do the damage like Sasuke's case...

Gaara's father trying to kill his own son is the equivalent to Sasuke's brother killing off his entire clan, including his family.

At least Naruto never felt pain in that sort of way. The only thing that can even be compared is Naruto feeling as if Iruka betrayed him and viewed him as a monster which was resolved rather quickly. Actually, at least Naruto had something worth living for. Sasuke and Gaara didn't. Gaara lived only to kill and Sasuke lived only to kill his brother and as a result, shut off any close bonds he had with others.
