Hmmm...by scary I conceive not a movie in which there is much gore, blood, nor am I scared by sudden ugly faces, or atonal musical effects. These have their underlying heuristic psychological modality. Being aware of that makes my brain somewhat immune to them. Now I'm rather scared of movies that relate a story that could actually happen with me or anyone else any time, a situation you can't escape. Now of course these movies may also include horroristic elements like scary faces or sudden sound effects, but that's not what scares me about a movie, it's more about the story itself. (Movies about exorcism don't scare me because I don't believe in demons possessing humans and stuff, nor do I believe in ghosts).

So, a typical example is the Saw movies. What if a madman would really abduct me and put me in a situation like those in the movies?
Or, home invasion movies (not just Strangers or You're next, with masks [masks are scary because they represent the unknown, thus it's harder to protect against], but even movies like Knock knock. Other thrillers like Side effects or Eden lake are also scary to me.

What about Wrong Turn , The Hostel, or When a stranger Call? Have you seen them? They're pretty cool and scary.

I've seen Wrong Turn but those deformed creatures somewhat lessen the reality of the situation. Same goes for movies like the Descent. But of course yeah those situations may very well happen, and so they are scary u.u Stephen King's Misery is scary too...

I haven't seen the Hostel because the critics I've read are not so positive about it...As for the third one, no I haven't heard about it, thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll watch it tonight.

The Shining was good, and it actually is about a real psychological phenomenon called cabin fever (not to be mistaken with the movie Cabin Fever that was directed by the same brothers who directed Knock knock and the Hostel. )

It (Watched it as a kid. Was scary. Haven't watched it since then)
Mirrors (Movie was okay. The concept itself though was horrifying)
The Last Airbender (I just....)
Nightmare on Elm Street movies (Freddy is a scary man)

I'm not a horror guy, so I try to avoid them.

Yes, Eden Lake! It's not so popular but definitely a good one!^^
