What is the point of the barrier?

So at first i thought the barrier was used to protect the fodders, but what is the point of the barrier if those fodders actually enter the barrier in question? Wouldn't that make it easier for Juubi to kill them?

I think to restrict the Juubi's movements, make it easier to control it.

To restrict its movements (Hashirama added the seals as an extra) and to contain TBB blasts (although that kinda fails since the alliance is gonna be in there now I guess lol).


Edit: Now I look at what I just wrote and think about how the Juubi splits up, yeah, I can't see it being that much use any more.

OR hashirama sees the juubi charging one up and opens the barrier so that it flies out and it misses the alliance (I can't say about any distant innocent civilians though) xd

The point of the barrier is to contain it... yet the barrier is opened for the alliance to fight inside of it... this means the barrier is meant to have all of them inside of it with the ten tails, who almost killed them just a moment before when they had all the open space.
I think this was the Hokages plan all along: trap the alliance inside with the ten tails. They might be controlled by Orochimaru after all.

Or Kishimoto doesn't know what he's doing anymore.

Its movements are now restricted, it was originally a sitting duck for attacks but it split up to avoid its main body being destroyed. I agree if they are just going to go inside the barrier they might as well just attack with all their strength instead of just standing their
