What is the point of ANBU?

Everytime they come to fight, they always end up dying. None of them manage to put up a decent fight..

In the Yukimaru arc, there were like 6 Anbu's and Kabuto (no Oro cells) managed to beat them all with one jutsu. I know fillers don't count but ANBU's are an embarrassment to Konoha Lol

Itachi
Sai
Yamato
Shin
Zabuza
Ao

In all seriousness, I know they are elite and all but what was the point of Kishi including them? Other than Danzo's history and all that

I think root members are better then most anbu because of the lack of emotional attachment but I just imagine anbu is like the special forces of ninja but I agree they don't benifit the causes much haha

This guy said it. But also as far as i ahve seen them in action, their perfect job is to gain intel or infiltrate. They are not good in fighting. Except on the guys you have listed.

They can´t compare to the main characters, true. But their purpose of defending the village and executing secret missions/assassinations was a well thought out idea, imo.
It adds to the overall picture.

ANBU infiltrate, assimilate, and assassinate.

The main characters just run around blowing things up. =D

But yeah, most of the main characters (some of which are ex-anbu) are much better in battle than the anbu.

Anbu is an elite team of ninjas belonging to the Leaf Village. The Anbu are noticed by the animal masks they were, and are assigned many various jobs including assassinations and escorts.

Not all were high level or top ninja.
Every Hokage had their own ANBU (selected) for protection.
Just like 4th Hokage Minato teach them how to use FTG.
One word - Specialist function.
