Nirvana is a state of mind/feeling (from what I remember).

You mean like in buddhism? I think it's when someone attains enlightenment.

Nirvana seems like the final stage of enlightenment (when you die) according to the scriptures.

Nirvana is achieved when you break out of the continuous cycle of reincarnation between the Six Realms; Deva (Heaven), Animal, Ashura, Naraka (Hell), Humans and Pretas (Ghosts). By breaking out of the cycle, you abandon the world and enter the Outer Realm which is beyond the Six Realms.

@ psy

I don't think, he is asking about the rock band Lol

Nirvana literally means extinguishing or unbinding. The implication is that it is freedom from what ever binds you, from the burning passion of desire, jealousy, and ignorance. Once these are totally overcome, a state of bliss is achieved, and there is no longer the need the cycle of birth and death. All karmic debts are settled.

This. If I remember correctly, it's considered the form of ultimate enlightenment, while Heaven is just a place.

Though by doing so, you are pretty much abandoning the world and running away from it's problems, instead of trying to solve the problems. So, to me it's questionable whether Nirvana is actually a good thing.

No man, it's not running away from problems or abandoning the world . why do we have these problems because we are born then we dies and get reborn, one finds nirvana , when they are able to break this cycle and they will never be born again .

That's like you are running away and don't care anymore about War, Poverty, etc. Or you simply lost faith in the world and as such want to abandon it .

Nirvana- Breaking out of cycle of life and death finally free from suffering of the mortal world. The ultimate goal for a Hindu or Buddhist.
For example people often don't say "Buddha died",instead use "Buddha attained nirvana"

Heaven - A place,Different religion have different definitions.

I think it is not running away because nothing is forever.People are bound to their karma and suffer. War and other things happen because of the humans greed, jealousy and mortal desires etc. A king wins and an empire falls. The cycle repeats. There is nothing forever in this world. You are a momentary victor.

Well, you are kinda right I think :| ultimately we can make our lives better for us and next generation.

It looks selfish. -_-

You have this impression that Nirvana is leaving the world, that's just figurative. You should really do some further research on Nirvana.

It's funny though, because Nirvana essentially rids you of all those traits that lead to war, poverty and suffering.

hmm Seeing people die from wars, getting wounded and people dieing because of hunger and suffering because of it , isn't that what makes you suffer ? don't you feel suffering from pain, old age, sickness, loss, separation from loved ones, do you have ever been able to find a solution for them ? so in Buddhism Nirvana is the way to stop all this and there's teachings in Buddhism, how a normal person should deal with these things and have a balance of mind to take anything that comes to him and live happily as possible .

If you want to have a deeper understanding about them, go through this link
