I am pretty sure that in the manga it states that Chidori and Raikiri are the same thing but Sasuke just decided to name his differently after its sound.

no it was the chidori when Kakashi first came up with it and used it in battle for the first time during the Kakashi Gaiden

like stated, Kakashi just upgraded it over time, taking it to the next level aka Raikiri

unfortunatley there is conflicting proof on the one cuz ur righ in this page it says its the same thing but on another page didera call is rikiri and sasuke corrects him and says its called chidori and on the wiki thing is says one is a rank and the other is s rank so it an endless discussion kinda ......i personally think they are the same thing but all i got is an opinion

Nice so Raikiri is stronger than chidori :)

Why the hell does Sasuke still use chidori then? he is supposed to be more skilled with Lightning Jutsu's than Kakashi...
...Well sasuke has kirin. Can't claim though whuch of the 2 is stronger

It would akso mean that they're one and the same jutsu derived fromthe same element. But doesn't tell they've the same strength.

Otherwise, why differentiate one by the other in terms of nAmes? Don't find it logical

Chidori is its true name, as explained in that manga chapter raikiri is a name Kakashi gave it.

It is and it isn't. think of it like the difference between Super Saiyan 1 & Super Saiyan 2; both are SSJs and look for the most part exactly the smae, hard to tell the difference, tho there are in looks but they're as minor differences as you can get...but they are two different transformations as it later becomes obvious in the difference of their power

same with chidori and raikiri

Chidori is kakashi's technique cause he came up with it as u noted in

But then Kakashi took it to the next level with raikiri

Chidori as its true name being theform. Remember that kakashi usedto wield the same and cslled it chidori not raikiriduring the gaiden. A raikiri was given as another namedue to chidori having its more elevated form. Kakashi would have still called it chidori as what he taught to the younger sasuke given the same basic form of strength. Hence, as others already pointed out raikiri is chidori in a stronger level.

how can you tell the difference?
My point is that it's not about the difference between the two at this point. It's the fact that Sasuke has made the Chidori his own technique, while at the same time Kakashi's known for the Raikiri

Every time Sasuke uses his technique he calls it Chidori, not Raikiri
Kakashi on the other hand always yells out Raikiri, not Chidori

We don't have to get into a detailed discussion nit-picking the differences between the two. It's both senseless and useless.

It's like trying to differentiate the Rasengan versus Oodama Rasengan. They are "the same technique" because they work on the same basic principle. The only difference is that one of them uses more chakra and is bigger. Therefore, they are by definition different techniques.
This is a very good analogy to the Chidori versus Raikiri - one is just stronger.

At this point in the manga the difference lies not in the technical definition, but by who uses it.
-Kakashi uses the Raikiri
-Sasuke uses the Chidori
