Why did you have to remind me about the sequels :NO: Though I wasn't a huge fan of the first movie I still liked it better than say, Dark City.

The relationship between Neo and Agent Smith is where they failed. They cratered to the belief that the audience would only be able to accept the straight-line protagonist/antagonist relationship. They weren't wrong in that belief though because clearly they were successful movies, which was their intent, but perhaps if the Wachowski bros had trusted the audience it would have been just as successful.

Yeah, you're right about that. I don't remember it too well after that many years but if I'm correct Smith wasn't exactly supposed to be "evil" in the first movie but rather do what he was meant to be doing, with that famous "Humans are like virus" speech, but in the sequels he became a virus or something himself. So they did waste a potentially interesting conflict.

They didn't establish that Neo and Agent Smith were connected and that when Agent Smith was taking over and imprinting himself over everyone in the Matrix that Neo was responsible for that. When Agent Smith escaped to the real world this was also because of Neo's imprint, not that he did anything major when he was out of the Matrix. Guess they felt the audience wouldn't accept it.

Oh, well, apparently I don't remember it in such detail anymore (I've only seen both sequels once and it was 10 years ago). But in other words they simplified it, right? Yes, this is regrettable when creators polarize their characters and divide them into "good" and "bad" guys like that, preaching only one possible "truth" and "right idea" to the audience, which has certainly happened in Naruto. So much that Naruto's own ideals turn bad guys good :|

I don't care though. I'm still siding with the "machines".

I like the matrix talk and surprised people understand it to that level, people I usually talk to don't even understand the basic story haha. Matrix 1 simply the best seen it a ton of times, 2 was okay it had more action which I liked but was missing something and the third one what a failure let's not even go there, still sequels did not live up to expectations and did you know that seraph is actually a past incarnation of the one?

I figured they were alluding to it when Neo beheld his golden aura, and the relationship he had with the Merovingian, who had survived Neo's predecessor's but once again they could have expanded on this instead of having cave rave/orgies.

Another retelling of this story that fell short of the mark was the recent Tron movie with the Flynn/Clu dynamic. The reflection of Flynn becomes Clu so in effect Flynn is responsible but due to ignorance of the downstream effects of his actions is somewhat absolved. This distancing allows him to maintain a protagonist persona.

And that's my gripe. The protagonist IS the murderer don't distance him from that. That's part of his enlightenment.

@bold: that's exactly the reason why I sometimes dismiss canon in favor of my own (and my brother's) headcanons. They may often be needlessly dark and complicated but we like trying to make sense out of things our own way Most of the time thy involve conspiracies of some sort.

ehh...the only thing ill say that bugs me is...

-The role the females play....I wish he would make Sakura and Hinata less dependent on love and boys. about 70% of Sakura's character is revolving around her love triangle..which is cool but show us why Naruto loves/likes her so much and highlight her in other aspects (besides only medical nin)! Also 150% of Hinata's character is nothing but a Naruto clone, shy version, whose obsession is Naruto. She could be so badass if Kishi would downplay this a bit and not solely focus on it (though hes gotten better recently...but it irratated me her cuz whose basically a bro just killed himself for her and her love interest yet all she focus's on is Naruto's hand....wtf)

Besides that i find the story very enjoyable. He has good intersting set up for villians and i do believe he is being rushed or something. The fights have been cool recently, but it did seem almost too easy to sway Obito...especially after all that talk and being depressed about Rin...now hes just ok with everything? and a good guy again? Madara needs to go ahead and be killed somehow...i mean hes pulling an Oro right now with the whole not being killable thing....
