During chuunin exams she was basically ready to fail whole team just to protect Narutos dream to become Hokage. She became even more fond of him after she heard that he risked his life and did everything to save her from Gaara, not to mention about promise of a lifetime. She was gradually becoming more and more fond of him, it was not some shallow reaction. Naruto basically grew on her.

I think we can all agree that right now hes much more to her than a friend.
