They were recovering from Pain nuking them and many characters confronted Pain like Kakashi and Tsunade. And Hinata made things worse she triggered the Kyuubi and if it wasnt for Minato Naruto would be the Kyuubi.

Even without Hinata Naruto needed to go Kyuubi to meet his father, I wouldn't say it was her fault it happened because it needed to for the plot. She just happened to be the catalyst that Kishi chose.

To be honest? Despite the fact Sakura's true rival is Ino, Sakura haters use Hinata as a rival for Sakura regarding Naruto and compare them in debates, so you get lots of Hinata praise.

Real Hinata fans appreciate her personality and hidden strength, and want the best for her, including her love of Naruto requited.

Those that hate her find her too weak, timid, shy or not bold enough because they prefer women like Tsunade or Sakura, Ino and even Tenten.
