I've always wondered which was necessary to rule, to keep order & prosperity. Im all about balance (think of a pair of Libra scales), I have never been one to pick sides, but instead hang right In the middle. I have also come to find out that balance isnt really an option when It comes ruling, your either or. IMO, if you hang between these two("balance" these two logics) as a ruler you will eventually contradict yourself. So which one is it? Fear/Tyranny or Love/Respect?

Love/Respect would make you a successful ruler in the people's hearts, but Fear/Tyranny can achieve power and success quicker, requiring less work on what the people want.

Imo, Love/Respect is the best way to rule, but it is not realistically effective in a world where military power is the dominant factor of power.

Tyranny always ends up in rebellion. There comes a point, a little spark or ignition, that turns the plebs upside down and before you know it, you're overthrown. You can't keep up a system like that.

At the same time "Love" doesn't work, because you always have people abusing it, through which others suffer.

This is true. I believe that Fear/Tyranny last longer than "Love"/Respect. Love has more weaknesses than Fear. I personally would rather have someone to love/respect me, but In terms of necessity I would rather everyone fear me, because this is the more "respected" logic.

Yeah your right. A majority of countries (like the U.S.A) was built on Tyranny (having slaves, stealing land from others, etc) and we are still a thriving nation. I feel like america is In the middle, and eventually it will have to choose which is necessary before it falls apart. As I said ealier personally I dont believe that balance is possible In terms of being a dominant ruler.

You're forgetting one important issue: Cuba was a poor underdeveloped and exploited country. Castro was a savior to the population.

Also, Caesar and the Chinese Dynasties are on a totally different level. We're speaking of over 2000 years ago. Society was different than it is now. It's like comparing a Greek Hoplite with a Navy Seal and asking who would win a fight based on the weapons.

That type of thinking is why things in this world do not work. You think in polar absolutes instead of a middle ground that uses pieces from both methods.
