What is Minato's backstory?

I noticed in the manga and series that everyone acknowledges Minato as a great shinobi, but what about when he was growing up? I would think that he would've had his parents to look after Naruto when he was younger, but Naruto lives by himself. Should this be thought of deeper or should it be kept as cartoon logic?

since in all the flashbacks we've seen there's no mention or image of the anywhere

it's like when you know kabuto had a godmother and now you want to know more about her =D

Minato is still a mystery, that's all I can say. Whether his background story will be revealed or not, depends upon Kishi's doing.

They probably died beforehand, Minato is the only Namikaze in Naruto.
We don't know any Namikaze's, maybe Naruto wasn't named 'Naruto Namikaze' simply because all the Namikaze clan was targeted and killed.

It's possible since Minato was a big target and it was said that if Naruto inherited his name then he would be attacked.
