What is Kamui?

How does his eye even do that? Did NV jesus ( Kishi ) reserve a whole universe just for the Uchiha? Shouldn't it have some bad-ass secrets in there from previous Kamui wielding Uchiha? I find it hard to believe only Obito got it..
