Fodder are characters that are unimaginably weak or characters that have no importance to the story other than dying of being saved by non-fodder.

Fodder = Every nameless ninja in the Narutoverse. Also Tenten, Ino, Kiba, and so on

Well the term "fodder" is used to describe characters with no name and no relevance to the plot at all. These guys can be killed off easily in large numbers. Examples include: Anbu black Ops agents, zetsu clones, random Allied Shinobi Forces members, random sound ninja and etc.

A lot of people use this term incorrectly to describe ninjas who they deem weak such as Ebisu, Iruka, Tenten and/or Ino which is false because compared to 99% in the Naruto Verse, these ninjas can be considered rather elite. For example, only a select few academy students can become genins. Out of hundreds of genins during the chunin exams, only less than 10 can make it to chunin. The drop off rate from academy student to genin is pretty high and the drop off rate from genin to chunin is even higher. Who knows what the drop off rate from chunin to jounin is but I bet it is even higher.

Its is misused a lot, you will see people like Tenten or Shino called fodder although they actually aren't. Here on NB it is used almost synonymously with weak, but it actually means a character who doesn't or hasn't played a role in the story and rather is there to fill up the setting and make it more real, eg. most of the Shinobi alliance members.

Ok, now I'm curious. What role has TenTen played?

Like I said, she has had a story fight and played a role in defeating edo Kakuzu with one of the Sages weapons, fodder don't get weapons like that and don't play important roles in fights like that. She isn't very important, but her very small roles stop her from being classified as fodder.

She stole that fan it wasn't ever hers to begin with at all. Naruto destroyed two of Kakazu's hearts with his RS and Tenten only destroyed one and died to add to my argument.

Did she play a role in that fight or not? She destroyed one of his hearts and it doesn't matter if the weapon was stolen, she played a role in the narrative so isn't fodder.

People use the word incorrectly and to much. It is a person who is unknow. A person who's purpose is to be a causality. Someone who can die and not have very much affect on the story. people like ino and tenten are not fodders. I even heard someone say Oro was a fodder. This is just stupid misuse of the word

Dude, killing some mindless bundle of thread ONE time isn't that good a feat.

@bold: that's exactly what Ino and TenTen are

It's a misused term. 'Fodder' relates to an unimportant character who is nameless and is just there for plot reasons. For example, a member of the allied shinobi force can be considered to be 'fodder', as could a Zetsu clone. However, what you'll find is, anyone deemed to be weak per say (Tenten or Ino for instance) will be called 'fodder', although this is not in itself correct since these characters play a part in the storyline and are well known.

So why is sasori called Fodder

If the term "fodder" being used on the Base actually stems from cannon fodder in warfare like somebody else said.. then it makes more sense to label people like the unnamed alliance members fodder instead of characters with even the slightest relevance to the plot (like Ten-Ten). I think it changed over time to mean characters who are weak because the typical cannon fodder is considered weak but this doesn't seem to be the right idea. I mean at least Tenten gets her own databook pages and everything.
