Well Kishi plus I, had an in-depth 2 hour conversation about him choosing not to continue the series with Bolts generation as the focus point. And you know what he said?
It's stupid man.
It's a rehash of our old story.
Sarada will train to become Hokage
Boruto will train to become the new "Sasuke"
Basically ends with them becoming static characters, because like Naruto and his dream for the Hokage, they won't change theirs. That's the point of the Gaiden/Movie, both characters underwent changes. If you read the summary, Sarada questioned what it meant to be a shinobi, and Boruto does the exact same thing in the movie.
A continuation of the series sort of makes their development half-assed since we have an understanding of their futures and their goals, we don't need a dry continuation on them spouting what they want to be. Can you really say you want to see Sarada screaming Shannaro, and "I'll become Hokage!" all day, everyday? Then at the end of the series she becomes Hokage :l
Same with Bolt except change the I'll become Hokage, to I'll never be home when you need me.
Add that with pairing nonsense.
