Yes, the anime would have been better if Obito had not been toby, and sure it's true that Kakashi would not have gotten all that development if that would have been the case, but the series would have been alot better, simply because it still makes no sence how Obito used his Mangekyu sharingan ability to faze true the boulder, long before he had obtained his MS abilities (back then he still had the 2 totem sharingan)
lets just face it, Obito was a brilliant suporting character that really helped with Kakashi's character development, but was, and still is a horriable villian.
On a side note a little less tailed beasts and bijudama spam and more rinnegan awesomeness would have helped aswell.
