I was reading the chapter where Danzo was discussing to the counsel that his anbu should do a sneak attack on the clan an wipe them out. My question to NB is do you think Root anbu really could've killed the Uchiha clan by themselves. Take into consideration if the coup d'etat did take place that means Itachi and Shisui would be on the Uchiha side.

With itachi they had a cover story that itachi being a psychopath murdered his clan. No one knew about coup d'etat

They used itachi so no one would think it was the leafs idea. You don't want other nations knowing that you wiped a clan out. So they had itachi do it then he went rouge so it makes it look like they had a clan person to crazy and it couldn't be helped

Yeah, i know but the reason they used Itachi is his a Sharingan user so Genjutsu won't work on him all the Uchihas have to do is put the Anubs in Genjutsu and they will turn them into their own personal Soldiers which would put the Village even a greater danger.

What I was really trying to get at is that when Danzo said it he made it seem like it would be a cake walk to take out one the most feared clans in fighting history with a couple of fodder anbu. The strongest anbu we know are: Itachi Kakashi Yamato, Torune, and Fu.
But if Itachi and Shisui involved thats no easy task.

Interesting thought.... I wouldn't be very easy to take out the entire clan, but even if man power was not a issue without a cover story the plan would have never work.
