One from the Hyuuga clan and the other from the Uzumaki clan.
After the birth of the first son, the Sage noticed his tendencies as he grew older, realising that his son firmly believed in strength and power to keep the peace, the Sage felt the need for another son, one who would be born without powerful eyes.
So he chose a second wife, from the Uzumaki clan!
Which would also explain why the elder sons hatred led to a fight to the death between the two, they were half brothers, from different mothers, and the younger was always viewed as a threat from the beginning. The Sage's decision might have been the last straw.
This would go along with the facts that the Senju are distant relatives of the Uzumaki, and the Uchiha have descended from the Hyuuga.
