Some of the speculation is that the chakra that each of the tailed beasts gave Naruto are parts of a formula, either some kind of key to a weapon or seal, or pieces of the Sage of Six Paths himself so that, when combined, the Sage will appear like Minato and Kushina did.
I had a thought, what if when they offered pieces of their chakra, along with their names, they were only giving a token of their friendship or recognition. This doesn't make what they did useless. As has been demonstrated in the manga, Naruto has the power to take Kurama's chakra and remold it into the same shape as a recipient's chakra so that they can use it as if it were their own. He just needs to make physical contact first. Sensors can identify people by their chakra, the beasts wanted to make sure Naruto knew them.
Naruto has already expressed his plans to pull the tailed beasts back out of the Juubi, so maybe he plans to use his chakra-shaping abilities to put them back together, because he can identify which parts are which beast because he knows their chakra and their names.
Now that Naruto has received a sample (and name) from each of the tailed beasts, he is able to 'see' or 'sense' them whenever he observes the Juubi. When he received pieces of their chakra, Tobi saw it too, and the image of Naruto with nine objects floating around him is just a visual representation of Naruto now carrying the recognition of the tailed beasts. The Juubi also saw it right before it spit out its flower to try to eliminate him.
If this is all true, then maybe it isn't necessary to have a sample from Gyuuki the Hachibi, plus he can infer which chakra belongs to Shukaku (whose name is not unknown) by whatever chakra is left over. Gaara's on his way there, so maybe we'll find something out about Shukaku through him. He had the Ichibi put in him while he was still a fetus, so it's possible that could turn out to be important. Like, for example, he was so close to his tailed beast that his own chakra and his tailed beast's chakra match and Naruto can get a sample of that easily.
