What if Sasuke didn't get Itachi's eyes?

I mean was he already planning on getting them ? Was he overusing his own eyes because he knew he would get new ones anyway or was he just that stupid at the time ?

Nii-san saved him once again, can you just imagine Sasuke going through the series without dem' eyes, he'd be blind.
