Honestly it seems too easy for Kishimoto to come out and just say "Sage = God, Naruto = Ashura/Jesus and Sasuke = Jesus brother". There has gotta be some sort of twist here. What if the Sage really is evil or has some alternative agenda? I mean he watched his own sons fight and almost literally destroy the entire world

Is that really something a good person would do?

idk why you would compare God/jesus to a corrupted writer and manga made up charachters.

If he had to do something it would have been to kill Indra, and that is something no father can do.

There isnt much a dead man can do.
The only think he could do his give his chakra/power
If he would have given his powers to Indra or Madara they would have used it for personal gains and what not
He believes in Sasuke and Naruto so he entrusted them.

I say that thinking he died before they fully matured

Let me clarify the original point.

Madara said that the world the sage created had failed

In a real sense, he has a point. The TB are being used as weapons. In the past, even by Naruto and Hashirama themselves. The Sage's own sons destroyed themselves and their bodies. The Juubi was revived and is destroying the world. The world fought 3 or now even 4 wars based on the Sage's failed idea that people could understand each other.

Honestly I think Kishimoto would do the manga world a great service by breaking with shonen tradition. That is, tell the kiddies reading "No, love, peace and friendship do not always win. That's the real world".

Will he? Yeah, I doubt it too... I mean ultimately this is a Japanese manga written for a Japanese audience. What we as foreigners think really isn't relevant to how he's writing this thing.

My opinion: The sage understood that he cannot solo create a world of peace, it would have to be through fear if he created peace just because he was strong. It had to be through the understanding and coming to terms with opposing forces.

This philosophy is consistent with the tablet, he wouldn't be able to force Uchiha and Senju to work together and achieve his ideals. He only has power, which he has decided restraint is the best course of action. I honestly doubt he is secretly evil. It fits with his actions. Besides as a chakra ghost, I doubt he could do much for the past or the present besides watch and give power to those he feel won't be corrupted.

He only arises now because Madara threatens the balance of power in the world. I cannot see the Sage having an alternative agenda, than to simply fix his previous mistake, and give Ashura and Indra a second chance.

If you're thinking Madara is right then it's obvious for you to say that Sage is wrong.
But I think the otherwise.

While it's a possibility ( simply because we don't know enough to say it isn't ), I don't think it's likely.
